The Ins and Outs of Change Communication for 2025

As the Von Peach team sat down earlier this year to map out what we’d love (and hate) to see in 2025, one thing kept coming up: the way companies handle change needs a serious glow-up. That means no more cryptic emails, soulless presentations, or “we’ll update you when we can” attitudes. Change communication needs to feel exciting, upbeat and engaging if you want your team to give a damn. Here’s our take on the dos and don’ts of nailing your change communication strategy this year.

IN: Shaking Things Up

Doing things the way they’ve always been done is the fastest route to change fatigue. Sticking to outdated methods might feel safe, but it’s a surefire way to kill momentum.

OUT: Clinging to the “tried and true.” If your approach to change hasn’t evolved since flip phones were a thing, it’s time to rethink.

2025 Fix: Embrace experimentation. Try new tools, fresh formats, and unconventional ideas to get your message across. Inject some energy and creativity into your approach. Change is all about progress, not nostalgia.

IN: Communicating Early and Often

Gone are the days of, “We’ll tell them when they need to know.” People want to know what’s going on from day one. If you don’t tell them, they’ll make up their own version of the story - usually with a dramatic twist.

OUT: One-and-done emails. If you’re dropping a single message and calling it a day, you’re basically inviting chaos.

2025 Fix: Keep the updates coming. Use every tool you’ve got - emails, videos, online workshops, Slack channels, intranet pages, even memes - to keep people in the loop. Don’t worry about being repetitive - the more they hear it, the more it’ll stick.

IN: Telling a Good Story

Numbers are nice, but stories are where the magic happens. A great narrative can turn “just another change project” into something people actually care about.

OUT: Boring PDFs full of confusing data and corporate buzzwords. Nobody’s inspired by reading material that feels like homework.

2025 Fix: Think of your change initiative as a hero’s journey. Show people where you’re headed, why it matters, and how they’re part of it. Add some visuals - a short video or nice graphic can work wonders.

IN: Leaders Front and Center

When it comes to change, your leadership needs to be a part of it - and not just from the sidelines. Employees want to see the people in charge walking the walk.

OUT: Senior leaders who hide in their offices and only show up for polished PR moments. People see through it, and it creates a culture of resentment.

2025 Fix: Get your leaders out there. Whether it’s hosting live Q&A sessions, sending personal updates, or just being enthusiastic, their involvement makes a big difference. Authenticity beats perfection every time.

IN: Clear Roles, No Guesswork

Nobody likes a mystery when it comes to their job. If the people in your project team aren’t sure who’s doing what, things will grind to a halt.

OUT: Vague instructions and the dreaded phrase, “Is this my job?”

2025 Fix: Spell it out from the start. Who’s in charge of what? What’s expected? What’s the timeline? Check in regularly to keep things moving. Making accountability easy makes people more willing to step up.

Ready to Nail It in 2025?

Change communication is all about keeping it real, keeping it clear, and keeping it human. That’s the energy we’re bringing into 2025, and we’d love to help you do the same.
